Books on bestseller lists are fast sellers, not necessarily steady ones. HERE, THERE BE DRAGONS never hit a major bestseller list, but five years on is still selling week after week, and just went into its NINTH paperback printing. Beat that with a stick.

Yeah. My agent bemoans my "terrible" retails sales...meanwhile, I'm living off royalties this year, all thanks to Scholastic Book Fair sales. :p

Thanks, Rae! It's still doing well in hardcover too - which is a great relief to me and my mortgages. ;)

Excellent! Congrats! And I will beat it with a stick! *g* Because, as they say, steady wins the race.

Steady means royalties, too - and I think that's the really important thing. Getting paid for work you've already done makes it easier to do new work.

The tortoise and the hare, man. Here, There Be Dragons is an ass-kicking tortoise.

On that note, just want to tell you that you are now one of a handful of writers whose work I buy as soon as it hits the bookstores, without waiting for the paperback. After Indigo King, I just couldn't hold out any longer...

Thank you!
