There's an excellent group blog called The Great Whatsit that I read on a regular basis. For those of you playing along, yes - that's where I got the name for the old library in THE SEARCH FOR THE RED DRAGON (which birthed the Little Whatsit, to be seen in the forthcoming THE INDIGO KING).
I found it because one of the bloggers is my childhood friend Bryan (who can be seen in some of the Memories of Comicon photos), who is now a History Professor at NYU. I asked the primary Whatsit, Dave Barber, if I could contribute a Thursday Playlist, and he said yes. The results (and a free download of music!) can be found at the links below.

My Specific Entry (for those of you who read this after Thursday)
Next up: More Comicon Memories, including how to get DC to pitch your book to distributors.

I find that I like having "background noise" a lot of the time. I think for me, an extrovert, it creates the illusion of having people around, without the inconvenience of actual bodies, or people demanding attention from me. Heh. So, mostly, it's turning the television on. I don't mind things that mildly entertain me, but it can be a bother if I start getting hooked on "the story" that's going on, especially if I'm writing.
If I'm writing, and seriously doing so, I have a problem with songs with lyrics, because, again, "the story" snags part of my attention. I do better with instrumental stuff -- although it almost doesn't seem to matter what: it can run from classical to jazz to show tunes and big band.
I can definitely sympathize about the reaction to static space! I hate bare walls! Especially white ones. I like variety of texture, color, shapes.
I like the ideal of "musical comfort food." Heh.
"Never inhale while drinking Vernor's" -- Hee! God, yes! Burn your sinuses! And heaven help you if someone makes you laugh while drinking it: snorting Vernor's - yikes!
